It’s best to use the same business name for all your social media outlets.
But it can gobble up the best part of a day to check availability of a name you’d like to use, right? Like SerendipitySue is available at Facebook but not on Twitter, okay at Google but not WordPress or eBay. What a LOT of work.
Fret no longer! Name Check lets you check so many sites at once, it’s frightening (what ARE most of those places, anyway?) Choose a name, get back to what you were doing.
Oh, some suggestions about what type of name to choose for your business social media?
- Incorporate your shop’s name with your own, or make up an alternate e-name. Try combining your shop’s name, Serendipity, with a “mascot” like Sue, even if your name’s Mallory.
- Get use out of your tag line, if your shop name isn’t available. Fashionmeetstheroad? Or your address or locator line. EncoreOnFirst?
- Make it easy for your audience to remember. Your “shortened” name, like WoEx for Woman’s Exchange, is easy for people to remember.
- If that name is taken, add your town. WoExSRQ is easily remembered by customers in Sarasota (But if they want to attract visitors who don’t know that’s our airport’s designation, they’d be better off using WoExSarasota.)
- Give your name some personality. If you’re seldom at Consignment Duds without your furry sidekick Dudley, Dudley’sDuds might be a good choice. Or use your mannequin’s name.
- Reinforce your “media” name by using it, as well, as your email: dudleysduds@consignmentduds.com
Keep in mind that 2 of the sites on Name Check keep returning just about every name as “taken”: Bebo and Sphinn. You can visit those sites from Name Check and decide if you care. (LinkedIN, too, says names are taken then can’t find them…)
Most usernames are not case sensitive, so, for example, people can look for https://www.facebook.com/2Good2BThrew and get the same result as https://www.facebook.com/2good2bthrew… but the capital letters make it easier for people to read and remember. So use that version on your web site, your business card, your delivery truck, and so on.
I was thinking about my name thus is my first shop and things I should do first and foremost and how would I get merchandise in
