More consignment & resale shop promotional ideas: October is…

Promotional ideas for consignment and resale shops

Is that a dog or a popcorn kernel?

It’s fun to have something to tell your shoppers, a reason for them to return and a reason for them to talk about your shop, isn’t it?

That’s a good reason to have an event in your shop. It doesn’t need to be elaborate (after all, you’re probably up to your eyeballs in tasks in September and October) but it should be interesting, and when you can add another local business into your event, you can draw more than your usual audience.

To wit: Who doesn’t love a shelter dog? Adopt a Shelter Dog info here. How could you and your clientele help…and is it feasible to have the shelter bring out some adoptables? Adopt a help?  (You missed Adopt a Cat month; it was in June. Read up on it here.)

If you adore dogs (who’d admit to less?) but are allergic, how about planning an early October promotion around popcorn? Yes, indeedy do, October is also official Popcorn Poppin’ Month (although what else you’d do with popcorn besides pop it escapes me at the moment.) Learn more, get recipes, etc etc at the official Popcorn web site.

More possibilities:

  • October 6 is Physicians Assistant Day (a thank-you gift to every PA who stops in?)
  • The week of October 7 to 13 is National Squirrel Awareness Week (hey, don’t laugh! Think about “Squirreling away your Savings”….”You’d have to be NUTS to shop anywhere else”… “Stocking up for Winter”).
  • Oct. 16 is World Food Day. How about a discount with donation of a can of food? And a press release to increase donation-drive participation, something along the lines of Turn a ham into Hollister jeans, applesauce into Abercrombie, plums into Prada
  • Oh yes, and October is also Toilet Tank Repair Month, but I really don’t wanna have to think of a promotional angle for that.

Need more info on how to maximize any promotion in your resale shop? Check out Promote with Pizzazz. Need promotional ideas especially designed for consignment, resale, and thrift shops? Too Good to be Threw has that, too, in 229 Promotional Ideas Especially for Resale.
