Consigning prom attire: Getting it in

February 17, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Great re-reflection: Letting them pass on their prom attire in your consignment shop! You know you need lots of prom dresses, and even more accessories, to make a big splash in your consignment, resale, or thrift shop this year…but

it’s all too easy for your suppliers to forget

that they have such things to pass on to another. It’s imperative that you remind them…and let them know that they can Turn Their Cluttered Closets into Cash as HowToConsign.com says!

Don’t hesitate to let your email, and your snail mail, list and your blog followers and the FB and Twitter folks who follow you, know that now’s the time. And make sure they remind their BFFs too… and remind them several times…

But before you can tell them, you have to get their attention with your headline or subject line. What will yours be?

Some suggestions for email subject lines, blog headlines, or lead-ins/Tweets directing them to your special prom-time web site page:

Were you a fancy-pants last year? We’re thrilled to be able to pass your prom dresses, fancy accessories, shoes and bags on to another prom-goer this year… call us at xxx-xxxx for all the 411!

Great dress last year…never gonna wear it again! It was SO you last year. Let it be so SOMEONE ELSE this year, and make a little mad money while you’re at it.

EmpireJulietSweetheart &  others at MyShop Prom dresses are such fun styles…let your last-year’s outfit become this year’s dream for another teen while putting some green in your jeans.

Was there magic in the air? If last year’s prom was a dream come true, if you felt like a starlet, a goddess, a princess… let the good vibes in that outfit thrill someone else this year. Now accepting prom attire and accessories at MyShop…

Be honest. How often can a girl wear a tiara? You loved it then. Let it be someone else’s crowning touch on prom night by bringing it…and your dresses, shoes, bags, wraps, jewelry, in to MyShop….

You get the idea.

Write a headline that will have them itching to open your correspondence, remind them what a special night prom can be for someone else, and invite them to help make another’s night just as special…at a profit to them.

PS: Please, don’t tell your clients what you need. They do not care. Now accepting Prom or Do you know what we need? will  only get a yawn or a smirk…why would they care about YOU? Tell them what’s in it for THEM!

So tell us…what’s your prom angle?

Just today we partnered with the beauty shop next door for a prom promotion. Everyone who buys a prom dress will get to put her name in the hat for a drawing for a free prom do with one of the hairdressers. Also, we have some necklaces which we will give away with every prom dress purchased.

Recently opened my store, so this is my first PROM DRESS HEAVEN adventure. I have approx 50 short dresses consigned and approx 50-60 long gowns. I’m open to any suggestions that will make shopping fun for the ladies.
