Let your merchandise speak for itself.

April 20, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

You know I think consignment, thrift, resale shops underutilize photos. I think every shop could use a lot more of them. On their sites, on their blogs, in Facebook (hey, whatever happened to flickr and twitpic?)

And you know I am a fan of words too. Captions add to the appeal…and usefulness…of pictures.

Are you ready to let your merchandise speak for itself? Here’s 3 quick examples I made with free programs like Picmonkey or Ribbet. Perhaps they’ll spark your imagination? Or more importantly, your potential customers’!

Another fun way to add words to your photos.

Adding captions to photos already in your FB albums.

Real tags…and virtual ones.

I’m a very visual person. I love seeing pictures of everything. My problem is, I feel like the pictures I take in my shop never do the shop or the items justice. I’ve been trying to do more pics on my facebook page, but I have a hard time posting a picture I don’t love.

This is an awesome idea. Now if I can just figure out how to do it….

Easy-peasy. Using picnik.com, upload a photo, then play 😉 I have the paid version which allows more fonts, etc, but try the freebie for a while. The chair photo, for example, first got its thought balloon, then the text within the balloon. Picnik’s also the place to correct photos you’ve taken: crop, color correct, lighten, and so on.
