Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”

In other words: only you can be you. Only your shop can be your shop. So don’t go copy-catting around. Develop your consignment, resale, or thrift store’s own personality and stick to it. A pale imitation of someone else’s atmosphere and branding is just that, a pale imitation.

Oscar Wilde also said “A true friend stabs you in the front,” so if sometimes Auntie Kate seems to be a little in your face, that’s punnily enough, what I do.

I agree with Kitty. Over the years, I have tried to develop a unique personality for my store and I have seen several other shops that have opened and tried to copy what I have created. Sad to say that they are not around anymore.

Even though they say imitation is the best form of flattery, it’s not in business. When others copy your materials and just change the name, it’s not the same and the customers know it.

Thank you! You’re so right – we are still finding our groove and it’s good to remember that we should proudly carve our own path.

    Love ya Kate!
