Have you ever had the experience of not recognizing an acquaintance in a place you don’t associate her with? I did, the other day, when I saw my hairdresser in the grocery… I just couldn’t place who she was.
That happens in e-mail in-boxes, too.
Witness this email I got recently:
Who is this from? The subject line reads “Sale at the Unique Boutique”, but the sender is “Restyled Rags.”
And where are they? When are they open? How can I look them up on the internet or call them?
Do they really think that I will stop buzzing through my incoming mail to figure this all out?
Do they really think that I will remember this text-only message an hour after I’ve cleared my in-box? (That’s assuming that I can figure out what shop sent me the message!)
Think this email was worth sending?
How would you re-do the message? Add your thoughts in the comments below.
P.S. Off the subject, but hey, if you had a $1 rack in your shop, wouldn’t you JUMP at a chance, in late July, to clear it out and clean up? Why exclude it from the sale?

I ALWAYS include our contact info: name, address, phone, website, hours, Facebook, etc on all email/marketing material, postcards, business cards, hand outs, brochures. Basically, everything I can get it onto. I even have my phone number and website on our sign outside. I have always appreciated a business that did the same so that I could contact them as I drove by, if needed.
