Is your consignment or resale shop lookin’ GOOD?

October 10, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Decorating for fall in your shopHave you added fall decorations to your consignment, thrift, or resale shop? Or to your windows (I saw a terrific falling-leaves window just the other day!)?

Tell us how you’ve decorated your shop.

Or what have you got planned for the holidays? Snowmen, stars, decorated trees?

And for those of you who are experienced at this:

what’s the best way to do this?

Any warnings of what NOT to do?

Any favorite themes you’ve come to rely upon?

We are located in the heart of our downtown. We have a fall scarecrow contest. Our scarecrow is a very flambouyant women with a pink shopping cart loaded with goodies. Then we attached a sign on the cart that says ” RESALE THERAPY” She’s is quite the attention getter. We use the plastic zip ties and attach here to a designated lamp post. However, if you have windows it could easily be done there too. Our windows get changed out every week or so because we are downtown and there is a different event every weekend and we are right across the street from the Square where everything happens. We are lucky to have the exposure. We also change the store around on a regular basis when things sell. We carry furniture and clothing so when a furniture piece moves the whole store has to move. We are on facebook; The Ritzy Roost Consignment Marketplace and you can see our scarecrow and well as others.

Every year, I get three haystacks and prop up scarecrows, and pumpkins all over them near the road. It attracts attention and helps my customers to think about me when they drive by, and hopefully, they will stop to shop. I have learned over the years to use fake pumpkins and flowers….kids like to smash the real ones too much. I also use lots of wire hangers to tie everything down in case of wind, and to make it harder for thieves to steal (they always do take something every year…but I stock up at after Halloween clearance sales to replenish the display next year).

Someone PLEASE respond to her questions!! I am opening a store NEXT week and will have to put together my fall windows asap. I’ve been gathering up any fall/halloween items as I come across them and hope that my friend (her LOVES Halloween) will be able to do something spectacular with it all.
Thanks for all of your future input 🙂
