What If…
you thought of your consignment, resale, or thrift shop just a little differently in 2012? Would your shop be more successful? More fun to run? Would you find unexpected supporters and fervid fans if you just approached things a tiny bit differently?
This week we’ll present a few What Ifs for you to consider. And what if you took the kernel of one of my what ifs and modified it for your business? What if my idea, and your interpretation, and someone else’s version combined… can you see where this is going?
What if you dared to be greater than you already are?
Stay with me here: So it’s time for all the Holiday Hangover to hit your clientele. Even the ones who aren’t your clientele yet. You know, the credit card bills from all that holiday spending.
And boy, is it boring in your store right now. Winter clearance basically done with (or at least dull), and it’s WAY too early to think about spring merchandise. Or is it?
What if… you could combine those things into a kick-in-the-pants business boost in your shop? Get suppliers into your shop by telling them they can make money to pay off the bills coming in… and get shoppers in, who are overdosed on winter, post0holiday, clearance crud.
Focus, this month, on Resort. Yes, even in shops which don’t sell womenswear. Kids go on vacation too, and lots of folks are looking around their homes, which need a little brush-up now that the holiday trappings have been packed away.
Here’s why, from a past TGtbT.com article in our Archives.
And here’s how
to transition gracefully (and profitably!) from one season to the next. And here’s what to do with left-over unsold items you’re sick of looking at.
There’s more What if‘s all this week… look forward and back. Also, see the original What if… which I mistakenly published with a 2011 date instead of a 2012 date. Stuff happens.

Great ideas. We plan ahead for the January February dull days. It means in December we offer a coupon for January. This month we are offering a coupon for double stamps on our Frequent Saver Card. And we have ordered the Frequent Buyer Card Kit from TgTBT. Waiting with anticipation for some more great ideas. Happy 2012.
