It’s times like this I miss Ohio…

July 4, 2012 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Happy Fourth of July! Every year here in Florida, I actually MISS being awoken at 6am by the whoop of every fire engine in Upper Arlington, with firefighters gleefully shouting

“Wake up wake up the parade starts in 3 hours!”

My town has had a nice, home-town (no sponsored floats, lots of kids and pets) parade since 1923.

In the early years of my consignment shop, I’d don my store Tshirt, decorate my bike with red white and blue crepe paper, and ride the parade route just ahead of the official start. I loved the

“Hey, way to go, One More Time!”

shouts as I practiced staying upright while waving to consignors and shoppers with both hands.

The parade has never changed. Here’s a YouTube from a recent year, and one from 1969 (that was before the moon landing!) if you, like me, get nostalgic for continuity.

Happy Independence Day, America. Please continue!

Love it!! Reminds me of the hometown parades from when I was a kid on Long Island, NY. We couldn’t wait to see my Dad and Grandfather marching with the Fire Department.

Hey Kerri, I didn’t know you were from LI… I’m from Babylon, and I just “met” another consignment shopkeeper through TGtbT.com who’s from West Babylon!
