I’ve watched for weeks, itching to tell my consignment, resale, and thrifts friends this little nugget.
More people come to my site and my blog via referrals at my Pinterest boards than from my Facebook site (and site.)
Am I delighted? Yes I am. Because MORE new people discover my business when they see an intriguing photo and link on Pinterest, than could even find me on Facebook.
Not that I don’t LOVE the folks who “friend” me or “like” TGtbT on Facebook, but everyone needs new faces all the time. And Pinterest has just the folks I (and your shop) need. Makes sense. After all, the demographic of Pinterest browsers is just about identical to the demographics of your target market.
And you should see all the folks who love HowToConsign.com’s Pinterest ideas and tips… those are potential resale shoppers going straight to the Resale Directory to investigate what shops are in their area!
Conclusion: If you’re not pinning you should.
Here’s a couple of my most popular pins. Just ’cause I like you. Click them to go to Pinterest, see what I had to say, and where I got the pin.

I love Pinterest and have named my Board “For the Love of Mint” to incorporate my boutique name Mint Consignment Boutique. I invited my newsletter subscribers to enjoy my boards and have dubbed them Pinterest Pals. I know I need to do more but so far it’s a great start.

Thanks, Andrea! I’ve been collecting up useful link resources for using Pinterest as a bricks-&-mortar consignment, resale, thrift shop; maybe I should massage them all into something of a resource for interested shopkeepers… there’s great info out there, but it takes time to find those that really help, and SO much of the info is not slanted towards what WE as resalers want to accomplish.

I hate to admit it, but I don’t really understand what Pinterest is. I know, I know, I am a technotard! I still think there is a tiny gerbil on an exercise wheel in the box making my computer run. Now that I have a tablet I’m thinking that gerbil must be really small.
Please educate me. What is Pinterest, do I have to join and how do I “pin” (better still, what is pinning?)?
Just think, you will be reverse mentoring this mature consignment store owner.

HI Cheryl, It’s a real simple way to do any of the following:
*Save pretty pictures for inspiration, like you would for a vision board or stuff that makes you smile like http://pinterest.com/pin/8655424254993839/
* Bookmark things you want to save, using a photo/graphic to remind yourself of what it is (if you’re very visually oriented, as I am, it’s really easy to find something you KNOW you saved, like a recipe http://pinterest.com/pin/8655424255331675/ or how to do something http://pinterest.com/pin/8655424254868745/
* You can even save videos like http://pinterest.com/pin/8655424254240158/ This one’s on my “secret” board, something Pinterest juts added, so you may not be able to see it)
The best thing about pinning is that, even if you repin someone else’s find, it preserves the original location. And you can follow others and see what they’ve found.
You have a gerbil in your computer? Mine’s run by a rat. A messy, moth-eaten, grumpy rat.
