I can’t believe she said that.

May 3, 2013 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Social media is a blessing for consignment, thrift and resale shops. Where else can a shopkeeper, no matter how small her advertising budget, reach so many of her customers? Or so quickly?

Or, sometimes, so thoughtlessly. So OMG-ish. Can you believe she said that?

Some screen shots I’ve collected:

Bad consignment shop Facebook message

Couldn’t she have said this a better way?

Less than adorable message from a consignment shop

Surely this could have been said in a more image-enhancing way. Perhaps this shopkeeper should have thought it over before hitting the POST button.

Soometimes, it doesn't help to Facebook

I’m not sure that this shop needed to call attention on their FB page to this quarrel. Think it enhanced their image?

Resale shop ignores copyright on graphic

Would you deal with a shop which doesn’t honor property rights, as seen here where they are violating copyright? The rights to use this artwork legally? $1.

Now, some great examples I’ve snapped off my screen while on Facebook:

Great way to use Facebook for resale shops

Now HERE’s a way to use Facebook: Show your personality and take advantage of the opportunity to let your fans know a little more, a little more often.

A furniture consignment shop takes the opportunity

Love how this shop obviously took a deep breath and decided that an over-broad question gave them a rare opportunity to tell a bit more about the shop!

Using Facebook to make your shop more real to your fans

Great way to use Facebook, to introduce new staffers. After all, it IS “social media”… not “free advertising”, right?

I love these kinds of posts! I love seeing the examples – good and bad – from others in the industry. You’re so on top of it, watching everyone’s pages, which most of us shopkeepers don’t have time to do. I can only aspire to one day be included in your list of the “good” examples! πŸ™‚
