Slow time in your non-profit thrift? Keeping volunteers happy…

June 18, 2013 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

If you run a thrift store, and your volunteers complain that there’s nothing to do today….

Or if you have folks who’d like to help your shop succeed, but don’t wish to have a sales-floor assignment…

Or if you know there are some folks who’d help, but they’re not up to standing on their feet for hours…

Here’s a treasure-trove of cute ideas for turning bits and pieces into adorable, salable, and word-of-mouth worthy goods! Click each photo to read about it.

Do you have any ideas for hoop earrings that you have no matches for? Please keep posting ideas.

Carla, selling singleton earrings, in this era of multi-pierced ears (and other body parts) shouldn’t be difficult. Collect up all singleton earrings, then “match up” similar singletons (say, 3 silver-tone hoops or 5 small gold-tones) onto a single card and sell the “collection” for one price. Of course, screw-on/ clip-on single hoops get put away in your Halloween collection for PIRATES!

And there’s LOTS of ideas on repurposing, re-valuating donated odds-n-ends on our Pinterest boards. This one, curated by Too Good to be Threw, focuses on turning unsalable donations into money-makers: https://www.pinterest.com/2good2bthrew/increase-the-value-of-your-donations/ and this one, from the HowToConsign.com Pinterest collection, holds fun re-imaginings from a consumer standpoint: https://www.pinterest.com/howtoconsign/using-your-found-treasures/

Did you use glue for the decoration on the purse?

Bless you, Janertte, for thinking I am so artistic! The link that goes to this image is the creator… but I just checked, and she doesn’t mention how she affixed the goodies. I would think a hot-glue gun would would best, but maybe a stronger glue might be needed. I’m not a crafter, so that;s the best I can suggest. Great purse, though, huh? Let us know if you try one!

I know! The purse is my fave, too. Wish some thrift shop volunteers would do this in MY neighborhood!
