Tax free days motivate consignment, resale & thrift shoppers

Taking advantage of high-profile tax free days is a big part of “selling more, to more people, more often.” Click for more info.

Aren’t some states having a tax-free weekend in August?

What are your advertising plans for this?

Haven’t seen a single promo or email from the many shops I follow… maybe I just missed them?

After all, we have the thriftiest shoppers, who’d love to remember, when they’re reading all the media hype about this, that yes, even their favorite consignment, resale or thrift shop is taking part!

If you’d like to share your promotional ideas about your tax-free days (or even if your state/province is not having one this year) with your resale peers, we’d love to hear, in the comments below!

If your state doesn’t have one or has had one in the past and doesn’t now, you could use that as a promotion – “Shop Tax-Free Courtesy of MyShop”, then just discount every purchase by the sales tax %.

Thanks, Katie, I was waiting for an astute business person to mention the “No Sales Tax on Sundays!” or “Back-to-school Budget Tight? We’ll pay your sales tax” promo idea! Sometimes it’s the most obvious that works the best!

At Pickle Juice, we are having a 10% off Back to School sale this weekend. Our Flyer will go out on Wednesday. It will also post to our facebook page. Thanks Kate!

Is your area having a tax free period, Terri? If so, your 10% off is “really” even more… if not, then “it’s even BETTER than tax-free” isn’t it? Be sure to post your flier on the HowToConsign Facebook page, too… that’s what it’s there for, so shops who are Sponsors can make their internet presence known!

        Kate,

How do I post my email on the HowToConsign facebook page? It was created in Constant contact. I took your suggestion and made a reference to our sale being BETTER than tax free….as always your insight and knowledge is priceless. Thank you.

That would be great Terri! There are several ways to let those who are not on your Constant Contact list see your email. First is if you have left the standard line about “if this email doesn’t….click here” in your header, it will lead to a temporary internet page of your email. Second, if you have opted to archive your emails, you can find the permanent page URL.

Also, if your CC account is set to, or if you opt to, “share” on FB, there will be a link on your FB page at that status update. I could not find your FB page to check this (FB search is TERRIBLE), and when I use your HTC listing to see if the email’s on your web site or in your blog if you have one, I see your site expired yesterday! (Wow, that’s sucky of Godaddy… even I give my HowToConsign Sponsors a month grace period 😉 )

            Kate,

I am so sorry about our website. It has since been fixed. I will try to go out on facebook and share it to HTC. I am still new to all this social media. I need to re-read your post about it. Thanks again for your help.

No problem… just thought I would alert you re your site. And there are always so many ways to do anything on the ‘net, and there are so many different devices that people use, that really, I’m gonna have to stop telling people what they “should” do and let them work the various “help” screens themselves so I don’t mislead by mistake! 😉

I did a post about it yesterday about it on FB. I have a scheduled FB post for my 50% off sale starting Thursday. I like the idea of the 5, 7, 9 so I’m going to steal it and tell people they actually get 57 1/2% off Fri – Sat. I also have an email going out tomorrow night. And I’m also going to be tweeting about it later in the week. 🙂 Thanks for the great idea (as usual)!

Thanks Beth! Hope the sale goes well!
