What does $781 look like in your consignment or resale shop?

November 16, 2014 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Headline: “Gallup finds Americans expecting to spend $781, on average, this holiday, up from $704 last November.”

Wouldn’t it be SO much fun, in your resale or thrift or consignment shop blog or other social media, to actually SHOW your followers how far an “average” holiday budget would go if they shopped gently-used? You could have a whole “photo album” to use over and over again, reminding consumers how much jollier their celebration can be with the help of your shop!

Holiday gift-giving, consignment style!

Hand-painted pottery for the home-nesters on your gift list, $15 to $29 each. Placemat sets for Grandmom, from $10-$18 and candles for the newlyweds, $5-9

Imagine: On Monday, select gifts for family members, from a vase or gloves for Aunt Tillie to a rocking chair or the latest best-sellers for Dad. Snap them, use prices in the caption along with some great selling copywriting.

Tuesday, continue to the gift theme. Wednesday, highlight decorating and entertaining goods you have to offer. Thursday, choices to gift-wrap (fill that Shaker box with cookies, use a scarf as a gift-wrap for a boxed necklace) Friday, holiday outfits for one and all.

Then on Saturday, re-use all 5 groupings as “Happy Financially-Sensible Holidays!”… and point out that perhaps all your choices add up to considerably less than the $781 “average”… which they can now tuck away in the college fund, donate to their favorite charity… or spend on a terrific winter getaway trip!
