Okay, I admit it. This REALLY ticks me off.

April 26, 2015 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

I’ve been trying to keep an open mind. I’ve been trying to rise above it. Heck, I’ve even tried minding my own business!

But the almost-industry-wide practice of charging consumers more because they want a plus-sized garment is really, frankly, incredibly annoying to me. To wit, this example:Pay more 'cause there's more fabric? It costs $10 more for the top end of the size range. Okay, sure, there’s more fabric and maybe even more thread in a 18-and-up garment. That’s maybe reasonable.

So then, why don’t they specify “[-$10.00]” for those who order an XS? Give the little ones a price break… think of all the monetary savings on material and thread and wear-and-tear on the machines and even freight savings for a little size (a tanker full of XS’s versus a tanker full of 3X’s? Imagine the fuel savings!) . Surely a size 0 rates a break once in a while, huh? But do you ever see a price break for mini-clothes?

Companies that don’t charge more, why, they earn my loyalty.

Which companies do you like and which annoy you? Comment below for your 15 minutes of resale-industry fame.

I love Avenue brand ~ their prices are reasonable, they have good sales, and an easy to use web site. 🙂 For nice dresses, Kiyonna can’t be beat.

Hey, I don’t know what a caboose boost capri is, but I can imagine…maybe the extra $10 cost goes into the caboose boost??? Just kidding! 🙂
Having been a buyer in a nationwide department store company in another life, the cost of a item like a jean was $1-3 more in 4-7/4-6x than it was in infants, and $1-3 more for 8-20/7-14. It is all about the fabric, findings, etc. That is why those discounters have stuff that falls apart after a season….lighter weight fabrics, smaller specs, less stitches per inch….and what I see now is cheaper dyes being used (they fade out and crock after a few wearings). Anywhere to save a penny…multiplied by the thousands they cut…is big dollars saved. As long as the consumer accepts it, they will continue to do it.

Connie, you hit upon it! The bigger the caboose that needs boosting, the more it needs to cost… but still, I think if you’re a size ZERO it should be cheaper, huh?

It torques me too. Especially women’s clothing which is made to fall apart in less than a year. But that’s a different rant.
