Mystery Gift Thursday

January 14, 2016 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

What will her gift be? Great resale promo for slow days, says TGtbT.com

I recently made the “acquaintance” of a great non-profit shopkeeper, Debbie Morrison, who runs three thrifts in Tennessee. She mentioned in passing a promotion her shop uses:

Mystery gift Thursday: Spend at least $10.00, get a free gift.

Her publicity for this free gift includes this lovely way to say “please no complaints over your free gift”:

“Free gifts are in a brown bag, no changes, if you can’t use it, please find someone who can.”

Since Serenity Thrift is a non-profit thrift operation, what to use for a mystery gift was a no-brainer. They’d received Avon products as a donation. Everyone can use a little Avon, right?

If your consignment or resale shop would like to use this idea, how about some purchased-for-resale accessories? What could YOU see your shop as using for this promotion? Comment below, and remember, you ARE allowed to put in a plug for your business!

Little things from a Dollar store would be great! Lip balm, cozy socks, nail polish, a little book of daily inspirations- wouldn’t have to be anything spendy!

I’d agree… but I’m thinking it’s really all in the presentation, that it’s a little luxury she wasn’t expecting. Take a look at how this item I received was packaged. And if that’s a bit much, maybe one of the ideas on this HowToConsign Pinterest Board might suit.

I am planning to give away photocopies of vintage glamourous 50’s styles of paper doll sets with a thank you message worked in… the dolls printed on cardstock and one sheet with the clothing on thinner paper… I just ordered some… of course some childless adults may not necessarily keep them or use them, but they would likely appreciate looking at them and are likely to pass them on to to mothers they know who will pass them on to their children… was thinking it would be a relatively cheap way to give out something memorable and something that people will actually look at and pass along etc…

I think the Cedar Chest should do this, wouldn’t have to be anything big… people just love getting something free

I think so too 🙂 What were you thinking of for their mystery gift?
