Give them something to take home!

April 12, 2016 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Animals made of play dough. Would your resale customers like a recipe?I’m a great believer in reminding your browsers, customers, and suppliers about your business as often, in as many places and in as many ways as possible. And one of the best, cheapest, most touchy-feely ways to do this? Give them something to take home from their visit with you!

A tiny gift they’ll enjoy that costs you pennies? A handout! Here’s a example to get you thinking…

A Recipe Just for Kidswear Shops:

Home-made recipes for playdough might be a great handout, when you emphasize allowing their kids’ imaginations to soar. Here’s a source with multiple recipes listed.

Or how about:

A calendar of local events (they’d probably stick that on their fridge!), a timetable/checklist for throwing a party (holiday-specific or not), how to jazz up a little black dress for multiple occasions? All sorts of info is available on the web for inspiration, but remember to be respectful of other people’s intellectual property. (Tip: Need some ideas on what would interest your shoppers? Check out the HowToConsign.com Pinterest Boards, where Too Good to be Threw posts customer-centric ideas on how to enjoy our resale industry!)

And don’t forget:

Put your shop info prominently on your handout. Be sure, if the customer is particularly thrilled with your handout, to offer her several to give to friends and workmates. (Another tip: printing these handouts on half-sheets of heavier-than-standard paper makes them seem more valuable. To really wow them, use glossy paper and color printing, so it looks like a magazine article!)
