Closing your shop for Conference?

May 2, 2016 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

NARTS Conference is the eagerly-anticipated annual gathering of resale shop owners and managers, but many folks worry if they have to close, they will miss business and offend shoppers. Here’s our Too Good to be Threw Best Advice on signage for your door.

If you’ll be closing the shop to attend Conference, here’s some wording to use on your front door that will

turn a negative (a shopper can’t come shopping) into a positive (she’ll be eager to return!)

You’re welcome to copy the wording, or, if you’d like a PDF ready to print out, just email us and we’ll send it to you!

TGtbT.com has signage for you!

Email Kate@TGtbT.com if you’d like a free PDF of this sign for your resale or consignment shop.

Notes on the wording:

  • Notice there is NOT the word CLOSED on this sign. Believe me, if you use that word you’ll start rumors that your shop is going out of business.
  • The line breaks are important because people scan, they don’t read.
  • Ditto the larger, bolder lines…those are the key points you want to get across.

You can, if your shop has a sense of humor, add a line about a secret phrase, so you can “reward” those who were inconvenienced by the shop not being open (see how I did that? how cleverly I just avoided the word closed? ). Something like: We’d like to say thanks for understanding, so the next time you’re in, tell us the secret phrase Kate Holmes is the Guru of Resale and we’ll give you a gift! (For heaven’s sake don’t really use that phrase!)

The perfect sign for those times you have to be closed for a day (or two). Thanks for pointing out how to say “closed” without ever saying “closed” lol 🙂
