3 Things to do when there are NO customers in your store.

Okay, the cash register ain’t ringing (do cash drawers even ding anymore?) and it’s been hours since your front door even opened. Do you get on the Internet and drown your sorrows in Facebook?

Not if you’re a Professional Resaler

the kind who reads this blog. let’s think about what to do to get back on track, quickly, with the least hand-wringing. Ideas:

Call your layaways. Any of them that are due in the next X days (X being determined by how desperate you are.) Hi Mindy, just a reminder that your gorgeous grey skirt is due out in a few days. Didn’t want you to forget it! Afraid of setting a precedent with such calls? Add a REASON you’re calling. Mindy, what size shoe do you wear? We just got in some spectacular charcoal suede booties that would go great with that skirt you have on layaway….

Contact your want list. ALL of them. Jesse, wanted to tell you that we haven’t gotten a leather Chesterfield in yet, but we do have a pristine saddle-brown leather camelback that might work for your office. What’s that you say? A brass floor lamp? Let me take a look and call you back…

Create some stunning Before-&-After shots for your social media. Dress a mannequin or that molded form with a bland outfit. That’s your Before shot. Then accessorize to the max (go on, be a little more fashion-forward than you think your followers are) and post both the Before and the After, complete with buying info, on whatever social media you please (actually, all of them. What else you got to do today?) Notch it up, and post several versions of an outfit and ask viewers to comment which one THEY’D wear, for some interaction. Then answer each comment as they are posted, with a fresh reason to stop in, being tastefully reticent of course.

There, 3 things to keep you and your staff occupied on a zero-sales day… maybe even get that register ringing!

Done all that, time left before closing? Go shopping. Here on the TGtbT blog. You could buy a ghost, get handy and turn PVC pipe into a selling tool, or even splurge.
