You know how TGtbT LOVES promotional events for your shop… especially FUN events that don’t involve taking less for your already-wonderfully-priced goods.
Here’s a simple, timely idea you can put into motion pretty much n the spur of the moment. (Although you’ll get more business and notice if you do it up right guided by the worksheets in Resale’s BEST Promotions, a Product for the Professional Resaker)

What could you do for a Witches’ Ball?
- Send out emails, do social media posts, add a line to your receipts and a message on your after-hours phone recording, and so on, promising “Spooky good deals♠“, “Hauntingly Fun Games”, “Dastardly delightful refreshments”… and maybe even a free drawing for a new broom! (If you wanna go all out, get a good electric broom for a prize and offer a “Supercharged Vehicle for those Witchy Days”)
- Displays of everything black.
- Staff wearing witch hats, maybe black t-shirts with white cobwebs drawn on them with a white fabric marker?
- Decorate your backroom door, your bathroom toilet, and stick bat silhouettes on lampshades or dressing room curtains (all these ideas on the HTC Pinterest Halloween board.)
- Search Pinterest for appropriate refreshment suggestions (or use the idea in my most-popular-pin-ever, which is totally INappropriate.)
- Find a door prize in your shop, or at the party store, for every 15 or 30 minutes of your event. Or use $5 store Gift Certificates good in November. Or have a favor for everyone “while supplies last.” Or, if you have time, make up a brochure of Halloween refreshment recipes, branded with your shop name, to take home with them (Print plenty and use them after the event for a customer freebie.)
- When? ASAP, so it doesn’t interfere with Halloween plans already made. Timing? I’d say 5 til closing, especially if you close at 7 or 8… or have it from one hour before closing to one hour after, if you close at 5 or 6. Two hours is plenty…
♠ Spooky good deals? I thought you said, Kate, no price reductions? ABsolutely correct, Dear Reader. The deals will be this one-evening-only rack of deepest MDs you have in the shop. Just gather it together and watch even your regulars snap ’em up! Or do a clearance of Halloween costumes or decir, if that suits your marketing plans.
Hi, Kate! I just ordered your resource on promotional ideas. I have enjoyed all the other materials I have received, in the past! I am looking forward to this one, in particular, because my store is in very seasonal location, we get really slow at this time of year without major hustle… and we just lost our plaza anchor store, that’s been open since the 70s. New anchor not openinf until freakin’ March. We’re losing MAJOR foot traffic, at the worst possible time. I hope to find lots of ideas in your book, that will keep our shoppers coming week after week! Thank you. You rock!
