Facebook Faceoff: What Wins?

October 26, 2018 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Yesterday, I posted 4 almost-identical Facebook photos within a 5-7 minute period. Here’s what I learned after 24 hours on my business page feed. I’m calling it

The Great Pumpkin Face Off

First up, this “mercury glass” pumpkin. It finished its day in the Facebook sun with a 260 reach, 19 engagements, 12 likes and no shares.mercury glass pumpkin
Next, our leopard pumpkin. It had a 279 reach, 31 engagements, 11 likes and 1 share. It was also the only one of the 4 posts that had a comment.

The mosaic pumpkin got a 331 reach, 24 engagements, 12 likes and 1 share.

The bejeweled pumpkin “wins” with a 576 reach, 56 engagements, 14 likes and THREE shares.

Now, I am no FB expert, but it seems to me:
Likes don’t affect the reach much (after all, all 4 pumpkins got basically the same amount of likes).

What does affect the reach? The amount of SHARES.

With that said, what can you do to make your FB graphics have a wider reach? Make it something folks want to SHARE.

How? I think in this case, the uniqueness, originality, and kinda spooky-glam bejeweled pumpkin was something more people WANTED to share. (Okay, it was just 3 people, but it was three times the shares that those others got LOL)

What do YOU do to make your graphics more shareable?

If you want to see how much sharing affects reach, go on over to October 25’s posts on  https://www.facebook.com/2Good2BThrew/  and share away. We’ll check back in another 24 hours to see if YOU can manipulate Facebook!

Kate, I have sold the store and returned to Dallas to a life without those pressures that I had become accustomed to for 35 plus years. Were you to have some veteran owner needing the kind of advice I might offer, be in touch. Otherwise, I am going to retreat from industry blogs and feeds, while I try to create a life without a commercial focus. Right now I am passionately hoping we can elect Beto O’Rourke rather than Ted Cruz here in Texas. I hold you in such high regard for your generous contributions to our industry.

A fond farewell from me and, I am sure, many shopkeepers. Thank you for all your contributions, the great example you set for us all to follow, and Godspeed !
