What will I WEAR for Conference?

May 2, 2019 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

This week, some tips about getting ready for NARTS Conference 2019. If you can’t make it to Conference, this week’s blog posts will still be useful in your everyday business life, so stay tuned!

Okay, you’re psyched to go to Conference, to meet new people with fabulous ideas and to share with strangers YOUR fabulous ideas. But still, it can be nerve-wracking walking into a room where you don’t know everyone.

Thank goodness for clothes.

What to wear to Conference? Some tips from TGtbT.com

It’s always good to wear what you feel comfortable in and one that feels like you, not some version (vision?) of yourself you THINK you should be. That’sthe key to an outfit that works for you at any time, but even more so if putting yourself beyond your social comfort zone feels you with dread. Here’s some tips inspired by a blog I love.

1. Plan out what you’re going to wear, matched to what the conference schedule looks like, its location and the time of year.

2. Comfort is key. There is a lot of sitting down happening. Will you feel as great at 4pm as you did during the kick-off session at 8.30am?

3. Conference climate control is a tricky thing. Make layers your friend and be prepared to add or subtract as required.

4. At most conferences it’s about casual instead of corporate. But look like the professional you are:  err on the smart side of casual. Casual doesn’t mean “dressed to clean out the back room.”

5. Don’t ignore the themed event. Join in, even if just with an accessory, hat, that sort of a thing. Don’t over-think the theme – unless of course you are a costume queen and need to uphold your reputation. (Suzy, Kirstie, our eyes will be on you!)

6. Do show your personality. If you want to connect with like-minded people, a good starting point is by staying true to yourself in what you wear. Dress so that we understand a bit about your personality from a first glance. Use your clothes to highlight the real and fabulous you.

7. Do pay others compliments on some aspect of what they’re wearing. A great ice-breaker if you find yourself meeting people for the first time. Do it and I promise you’ll feel all kinds of tingly on the inside.

Simply CAN’T attend Conference? Here’s how to make your OWN Conference.

As far as your wardrobe goes, as in this blog post, Moneca? Or are we talking more universally? If so, bop over to our FB page at https://www.facebook.com/2Good2BThrew or, if you’re in our closed group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/TGtbT/ and we can talk further!
