This before shot of a consignment shop is just begging for Auntie Kate of TGtbT.comNow might be a good time for an Extreme Makeover for your consignment, resale, or thrift shop… before the Fall Avalanche of incoming hits in its full force and glory.

Follow along as I did one back in October 2009.

I’d show you a more recent makeover, but no shopkeeper’s been brave enough to let me put her business “on camera” recently!

If you’re designing or updating your logo, think about how much fun it could be to make it changeable with the seasons, your focus, a sale event… here’s a real simple example of a changeable logo from a non-profit thrift store:

Thrift shop pre-opening logo

Resale shop logo

Simple logo your consignment shop can alter

Now imagine further: holiday wreath, “Sale” Balloons, Fall Arriving daily!

Have you seen some changeable logos you want to share? (Oh, and don’t miss Google’s gallery of THEIR changeable logo! You can even buy onesies with them on them… which, come to think of it, is a pretty neat idea: T-shirts for your shop with YOUR seasonal logo, huh?)

Our thanks to Lake Forest Resale Shop.

I am so depressed when I see a web site, blog, Facebook entry or even a tweet which is devoid of personality.Great Halloween costume, BTW

I mean, we all got a personality, right?

So why not use it.

Now I admit, my personal personality is a bit judgmental, I know (once a friend described me as “does not suffer fools gladly”), but geez, guys. Statements like I will be needing Retail help soon at my Used Furniture store (yeh, and….?) or Great shoes, great price. (Tell me WHY they’re so great, or my eyes will roll and I’ll be on to another social media venue.)

It’s a lot more meaningful, engaging, and heck, just more fun to be yourSELF

with messages like When you have a rough day, sometimes the ONLY answer is a kick~azz pair of new cowboy boots and We’re obsessed with these Gucci boots!! or Cute as a button~

Oh, and BTW: get to it.

Unlike these examples: Customers always ask what are we in need of or looking for. So, I’m putting the word out… and please pass it along… or AUCTION ITEM RIGHT NOW..COME ON OVER

Another BTW: that photo’s a great idea for a Halloween costume. And you KNOW Halloween’s the BIGGEST holiday for consignment, resale, and thrift shops, doncha?

The Montgomery County Thrift Shop has a unique twist on volunteers! As times get tougher, it gets harder and harder for non-profit resale and thrift shops to recruit and keep volunteers.

There are fewer volunteers to go around, as formerly-available people are finding they must take paying jobs, and as the great majority of thrift-store volunteers grow older (and, presumably, their sons and daughters have not yet had the opportunity to realize how good giving back feels.)

That’s why, when I ran across (more…)
