One of the things that used to amuse us at my consignment
shop is that new customers used to say “Why, this is just like a real store!” in tones of awe. We workers used to silently add “as opposed to an imaginary store, of course….” and try not to smile.

Just because school’s starting pretty soon or is already in session, is no reason to shop showcasing your resale or consigned BTS outfits…for children of all ages!
The photo to the right is of a Gap Kids store…wouldn’t signs like these, hung around the neck of your outfits, look great? Especially if your signage said something like “Get the whole outfit for…” Try a teacher-supply store for ready-cut numbers, mount them on foam sheets for the 3-D effect.

I absolutely ADORE these. And my adoration is not given lightly. They’re new, newsworthy, and a heck of a way to use up those slips that languish on your lingerie rack. Best of all, you probably have a customer, relative, or friend who would love to make them for your shop. Feathers, lace, patent leather, satin ribbons…what’s not to like?

So we boarded up and canceled school and stocked up on water and batteries (well, for me it was champagne and candles)… and Fay never became a hurricane. The wind was brisk and the skies were cloudy but we never even got rain yet alone the hurricane they were talking about.
With nothing else to do, around 11 we went to an office-supply store to pick something up. Of course they had no customers. The streets were almost empty. The store next door was plywooded up and dark. The grocery (more…)
