But learning to be creative with your resale business. That’s a challenge! Here’s Step #1  from one of TGtbT.com’s mini-Products:

Business-building creativity in 4 easy lessons: #1

First, identify new markets and opportunities.
Pay attention to the world around you. Are there trends to be taken account of? Is your market changing, and how can those changes help your business?

For example: What do people want to buy from you now, that might be different from when you first opened your shop? How do potential clients learn about you? Is the trend towards ever-cheaper quality in consumer goods going to impact your business and what can you do about it?

Steps 2, 3, and 4 on how to build your business by getting creative are in your copy of 101 Daily Tips for a Better Shop. Don’t have a copy yet? It’s available for Pretty Darn Quick download on Too Good to be Threw’s “Lunch with Kate” Page.

Another meaning to the activity “tag” in your consignment, resale, thrift shop:

If your target clientele is the right age group/ mindset…let them tag, that is, graffiti something in your shop. Nothin’ says lovin’ like somethin’ on the wall.

Teen, preteen, college market? Let your resale customers tag something in your shop! And start it off, of course, with your shop name.

A tiny detail, to be sure, but a powerful one.

Are your supplier policies more user-friendly than your competition’s?A Too Good to be Threw Teeny Tip fior Consignment, Thrift & Resale Stores

Mention it.

“You’re welcome to bring as many things in as you like” will let her know you set no arbitrary limit. “Stop in anytime, you don’t need an appointment” tells him it’s easier to deal with you.

Do you pay on demand? Send out convenient checks by mail? Have a Merchandise Valuator on duty whenever the shop is open for convenient consigning/ selling? If you’re a NFP thrift shop, is there always a staff member handy to help a donator unload her/his car?

What seems to be common-sense, or just the way things are, could be exactly what a potential supplier is concerned about.

Your day-to-day procedures can be a selling point. Don’t overlook the marketing possibilities right under your nose!

This is just one of the tips in 101 Daily Tips for a Better Shop,  a collection of tips you can use every day to remind you of steps you can take to make your shop better. Get it, and many other helpful publications, at TGtbT mini-Products for the Professional Resaler.

Wrapping paper isn’t just for gifts!

Never pass up a sale of wrapping paper without a good look.

  • Wrapping paper can cover boxes for risers in a display or a showcase,
  • be used as “seamless” paper to be scrolled as a backdrop on a display,
  • even folded into fans for accents in a display.

Another idea: if you use a large foyer sign holder, cover poster board or foamcore with the paper (spray adhesive is perfect for this job), and center your 8½” x 11″ announcement within using removable glue dots. The wrapping paper makes a nice mat for your message. Look for small patterned paper that blends with your decor, shiny metallic paper to catch the eye, or even marbleized paper for depth and interest.

(Bonus Tip: Ask your clients if they have wrapping paper they’d like to recycle…that is, bring in to you so you can put it to good use as above! Any inappropriate designs or colors could be donated to a kids’ program for arts and crafts use. Remember the reasons I gave to  BRAG about this shop-supported charitable donation!)

This Teeny Tip is from Resale’s Cheapest Tricks & Best Buys which is one of TGtbT.com’s Lunch with Kate mini-Products for the Professional Resaler. You can get all the rest, PDQ, to keep in your Business Success computer file, or to print out and put in your shop file folder.
