Sequin glamor from Nine WSest, at Macy's…sell polyester. So said a very wise man to me years ago.

After all, who got acclaim as one of the richest men on Earth? Sam Walton, or the guy who owns Saks Fifth Avenue? Do you even KNOW who founded Saks?

My stepsister worked with me at my consignment shop, One More Time, every day. One Sunday, we attended a giant gathering. (Now keep in mind, it was a sweaty summer day, dusty, in Ohio, but still…) She looked around and, behind her hand, said Continue Reading »

This week, I added another country to the list of places that I have sent my book, Too Good to be Threw, The Complete Operations Manual for Resale & Consignment Shops and other of my Products for the Professional Resaler.

Norway‘s the latest country. Of course, I send scads to Canada, quite a number to Australia and Great Britain. In addition, I have sent manuals and other info to Italy, Costa Rica and Mexico, Sweden and Germany. Several to Hong Kong too (can you imagine THEIR rent!?!) Fun to know that ReSell..RePlace…ReJoice is becoming an international favorite!

When I have time, I love to look up some addresses in Google Maps. A recent one was a half-number in a romantic part of NYC. I’ve always wanted to live at, say, 8 1/2 Summit Place and waft around in tea-dyed lace and tattered chiffon. Another address that had me daydreaming was something like The Old Vicarage, High Street, Quaint-on-the-Thames in England. Tweeds and crumpets, cobblestones and hedgerows.
Now, if I could only stage a World Tour! Heck, maybe I’ll just design a T-shirt and pretend like I get to see all the wonderful places TGtbT is making its mark on the retail world!

Lighted shelving for your shopSo, here’s Kate shopping for, perhaps, your consignment, resale or thrift shop.

Sometimes, your merchandise needs a little light shone upon it. Thus, these battery-operated lighted shelves. Imagine hand-blown perfume bottles displayed hereon, a sparkly holiday ornament on a stand (these stands are another one of Kate’s Favorite Things, useful in many ways!), or even a detailed figurine.

These shelves are guaranteed not to collect dust…because you will be selling the items you put on them quick quick like a bunny.

The shelves, and the photo, are from Solutions.

Previous Favorite Things: Letter hooks and an elegant announcement board.

First, read The Jacket I Left Behind. I STILL lust after it. I still regret it.

So there I am. A consignment shop owner, author, editor, and consultant, shopping in another consignment shop while on vacation.

I’m thrilled to find a shop, thrilled that DuH has a magazine that he can sit in the car and read, thrilled that I have time to really shop.

Sashay I into said shop. Nice place! Lookin’ good. Oops. There’s Continue Reading »

Are you overwhelmed in your consignment or resale shop? How many hours a day do you work? If you’re an entrepreneur, you probably cannot answer that question. Do you count just the time when you’re physically at your business? Do you include that focused-mental-set time known as commuting? How about the minutes here and there that your brain wanders from making dinner or listening to your preteen complain about her friends towards what you have to do at work?

Then there’s the hours Continue Reading »
