Are you Just Another Shop?

July 10, 2009 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

are you a boring consignment shop? Are you run of the mill?

Boring? Blah?

Forgettable? Yawn-inducing?

Is your business drowning in the Sea of Sameness? Promise me you’ll do a little shakerattleandrollin‘ before International Resale Day, Saturday July 18. Perk your shop up before those shoppers come to you for their early fall stuff, since the malls are boring them to death (death of the mall, I mean.)

  • Paint your back wall Mimosa Yellow (it’s the Pantone Color of the Year.)
  • Make your next ad an advertorial. See an example on TGtbT.com.
  • Make a Furnish your Dorm Room list for your clientele.
  • Redesign that Mini-Billboard you have on your counter.

I’m sure you have some good idea of where your shop is boring the starch out of your clientele. Tell us what you’re planning on doing about it, so your shop stands out from the crowd.

Go ahead, I dare you: hit that little “Comments” link below this message. It is totally painless, I promise.

Hello? Is anyone there?

    Change your jewelry counter daily!

Showcase a different piece by framing it with a table picture frame!

Showcase a blouse or purse at the intake desk and watch it sell! This will also hide the pen jar and tagging gun in a very discreet way.

Have a door to no-where land? Hang a full outfit on the door and change it daily!

Although I have an idea of changes to make, I will have to pass on the Mimosa Yellow.
From Color Psychology “Cheerful sunny yellow is an attention getter. While it is considered an optimistic color, people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and babies will cry more. It is the most difficult color for the eye to take in, so it can be overpowering if overused. Yellow enhances concentration, hence its use for legal pads. It also speeds metabolism.” I like the metabolism part of that, but I personally have always disliked yellow, my daughter thinks it funny to change the backround color on ConsignPro-she has no idea what it does to my energy for the day.
