Move those left-over summer clothing items by turning them into transitional outfits!
This great photo, from Your Best Friend’s Closet in Denver, got me thinking.
Here’s how:
- Add heavier accessories like the chunky chains, neck and waist, in the photo.
- Scarves can loop around necks, be turned into a weskit as above. And remember leather belts too.
- Tights, bike shorts, leggings, skinny jeans: layer them beneath a summer dress or top/mini combo.
- Add dark, suede sandals, pumps, ballet flats, boots.
- Cardigans. Jackets. Pair them insouciantly with denim cutoffs, a floral dress, or the all-purpose chino crops.
- Do it up big…start that word-of-mouth. PIle on the layers, the bangles…make it showy!
Here’s a basic outfit you can pull together in two secs: it’s from Fringe, a consignment shop in Alabama. What makes it work? The surprise of the turquoise belt, the scarf worn as an epaulet.

I love these ideas! I’m always looking for new ones! Not only will I make some displays with these ideas, but I’ll start wearing the trend as well! I may start something in my town!

Yes, Tracy, DEFINITELY wear what you want to sell! I used to work in “real” retail, and we had to wear what was still on the sales floor available for purchase. Once it sold out, we weren’t allowed to wear that outfit to work any more…. (yes, it got just as $$ as you imagine 😉 )
