Ah, the lost art of customer service. »

Tell me, what are you doing in your consignment, resale, thrift shop?

January 25, 2011 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Describe your consignment shop in 15 seconds.Seriously. What’s your elevator speech?

Cocktail-party attention grabber? Pithy statement to newspaper reporter? Definition of your business to local blogger? Sound bite for the evening news?

What is it, exactly, that you DO?

Sell old clothes? Deal in secondhand furniture?

How catchy is THAT?

How about the fact that your business is all about

RAISING AWARENESS

of the true ecological and economic cost of buying NEW and buying DISPOSABLE (disposable is a polite way of saying it is will be trash within a few washings or usings).

Think that will get some attention? Be memorable? Be quotable? Get people saying

“Tell me more…”

So. How do YOU describe your business to a stranger? Tell us, by commenting below.

I always tell them our name is “DejaVu Boutique, we are the Macys of upscale resale. We have trendy fashion, accessories and funtiure. You need to come buy because we are never the same shoppe twice!!”

What a great topic Kate! I’m waiting for more answers… and ideas.

Since I’m still pretty new at this and usually need something rehearsed to say so that I avoid sticking my foot in my mouth, I usually say, “we have a furniture consignment store – our customers bring us new and interesting things every day.”

I have been saying “we have a high end women’s apparel and accessories resale store”. But you’ve got me thinking…and I will change to…
“We enable “lovers of fine clothing” to invest and purchase high end women’s apparel and accessories at 30% to 90% of the original price.
