Good question, huh?
Who do you think is more likely to buy a lot in your shop, a person you’ve sent a 20% off anything coupon, or a shopper with a friend?
How about BOTH?
That’s why one smart consignment shop owner sends her birthday card, with that 20% off coupon, with greeting and the notation both you and a friend are invited to take 20% off storewide…
And if the friend your coupon recipient chooses to bring with her to share her discount is someone new to your resale, consignment, or thrift store… even better, right?
So simple, so effective. Don’t you love ideas like this?

Love it! I’ll be using this one for sure.
We have Girl’s Nite Out ( food fun free massage etc) once a month and we give 10% discount for each new friend you bring ( up to 50% ) your friends each get 10% disc too. It has been a huge hit and has brought us tons of new customers. Fyi We are a ladies clothing store
Oh, that’s fun. How do you determine if her friend is “new”… and what do you do if she isn’t?
Interesting… both Ruth and Jenni sell furniture, and I can see where having a friend along could be distracting from those large-ticket, just-plain-large items. (I’ve never gone couch-shopping with my sis, for example!)
On the other hand, personal adornment I think, is bolstered by friends shopping together (and egging each other on! How else would I ever have had the nerve to buy half my wardrobe, without Sis telling me it was PERFECT and grab it while I can!)
Let’s not misplace the idea of the promotion… to plant in the mind of the coupon recipient that the shop would be a fun girl-activity and that she could literally “treat” her friend to her discount.
I feel a little leery of friends too… sometimes they encourage each other to buy things but so much of the time, they just chat and wander forever, asking tons of questions and buying little to nothing. Sometimes those window shoppers do turn into great consignors or come back weeks or months later when they need something and buy then.
All in all my best shoppers are usually alone or with their family. It’s easy to rack up quite a few items when you are on a “mission” to buy. Maybe we are a little different though, since we consign furniture and it can be a bigger ticket price.
In our furniture shop, I have seen this work both ways. Seems most often the friend talks the other out of the purchase, especially if it is the second time the customer has looked at the item. But a coupon for the shopper and a friend is a great idea. Thanks.
Great advice …thank you…i have seen the power of shopping with friends ….it works …wordpress.com.vintagevogue07
