Now, some consignment, resale, and thrift shops do really well selling empty frames. Some don’t.
Those that do, market their frames directly to local art classes/ schools/ students/ associations (you will not believe how expensive frames can be unless you’re a painter!)
Others, fill empty frames with something to make them more appealing. Scrap wallpaper, scrapbook paper, even old calendar pix. Not that the buyer will particularly hang the frame as-is, but to show how great the frames COULD look.

I have done the reverse. I bought a book of Mommy sayings…tore out the pages
I liked and framed them all around the store (Carousel Kids is a kids resale). The one on the wall by the shoes reads: ” Children wear out their mothers faster than their shoes.”

Have to add this idea of printables to use to “fill in” empty for-sale frames… too quirky for some shops, but perfect for others! http://pinterest.com/pin/4011087137615063/

I do as Kim does…..have purchased note cards that are actually beautiful photographs of our local area.

Most of our frames are small, and the really nice ones I put greeting cards in them. I find ones that look more like a picture, with no words and not holiday. I have had people actually buy them FOR the picture not just the frame. That always surprises me!

ANOTHER great idea that I wouldn’t have thought of! Thanks Kim!

Love the colors on these frames. We are one of those shops that don’t do well with empty frames right now. It seems to ebb and flow for us.

Is there a school with painting classes nearby, that you could see if they’d mention your frames? Or individual teachers who might recommend that students check with you before spending the big bucks? Might help with more flow and less ebb!

For smaller picture frames, I’ve been typing up quotes of Coco Chanel and other fashion powerhouses in fancy colored fonts and filling frames with those. I think I got that hint from you, Kate. They look nice and sell well (one woman kept the quote in for her dressing table).
