There’s nothing wrong, if you aren’t getting enough good reviews of your consignment, thrift or resale shop on places like Yelp, about writing your own review.
One would simply hope that you might be a bit less obvious than this review

Get CA$H 4 Clothes!!!
5 Star Rating: Highly RecommendedXXXXX is a hip, trendy store where you can sell your old clothes for CA$H!!! Sweet huh, I know. They have all kinds of different cool stuff from purses to swimsuits for guys and girls. They also have a broad selection of designer brands which is rare to find at such a CHEAP PRICE! Not on ly do they have great clothes and accessories, but the help has always been nice as well as helpful. I would definitely reccommend going in this cool store especially if you are into the latest styles and trends. They are open 7 days a week which I found very convenient and with great store hours from 11-7 M-F, 10-7 Sat, and 1-5 Sun.
Pros: Clothes $ Cash, great selection, designer wear
Cons: Don’t take all clothing
(That misspelling was a nice touch, though, wasn’t it?)
Thanks to P. Steiner for the cartoon… I’d credit you if I could!
Don’t even get me going on Yelp! We’ve won over 15 awards, got letters from the mayor for our charity work, have a ton of good reviews every where EXCEPT Yelp. Yelper’s are a strange crowd. They hide behind their Yelp accounts using fake names and never bothering to speak with the business owner before they leave the store. The worst thing is that our main competitor has a five star rating all from FAKE reviews. How do I know they’re fake? Well, several are just as bad as your example and the rest are from Yelper’s with ONE review! You think any of our reviews would stick? Nope, ONLY the bad ones. Sad thing is that these bad reviews are simple little issues that could have been easily addressed in the store and were all a misunderstanding. We tried writing our own review as you suggested (believe me, it was nothing like your example) and it got “filtered” by Yelp. We have several customers that have done Yelp reviews and everyone of them got removed by Yelp. it’s no wonder that Yelp has been and will continue to be sued by small business owners like us. One more thing. We politely responded to one bad review asking to “give us another chance”, etc. OMG, you would have thought i sent the FBI after them. They came back with a scathing response which only added to the poor review. Here’s the real irony. Yelp called us last week and asked if we would be interested in advertising with them!!! I had their rep look at our listing while they were on the phone…there was a silence and then she said, “well it doesn’t look like it would make sense to send more people to your Yelp page”. DUH…she said good bye and hung up!

Thank you, Joyce, I think many, even most, folks will agree with you about Yelp. Unfortunately, we must live with that and with all crowd-sourcing Internet sites. My point was simply that if you are writing a review of your business, or of that of a friend, flagrantly “advertising” is not the way to go. This is not the forum to start a discussion on Yelp, though. Let’s stick, here on AuntieKate and Too Good to be Threw, to making our businesses so good that we are bullet-proof to all the silly, hurtful, untrue abuses that can be dealt out.
