Hi Jane! Generally, yes… depending on where you are and how you define summer! If you are in a town that has a surge of summer residents/ visitors/ tourists, that might not be true, and if you sell kidstuff, the “slow season” should end for your shop as soon as parents start looking around for back-to-school, generally the first or 2nd week in August.
Do y’all differentiate between consignment and thrift shops here? I see “resale” everywhere, but your posts refer mostly to consignment. I plan on opening a thrift-type store but I don’t plan on taking consignment… well, it’s not in the plan anyway.
I will buy your book, but we have to do minor things like sell the house, move, get a new place, find a storefront, etc… you know, the little things. I’m in my planning stages at the mo.
The definitions of these terms have always been a bit vague, and with the lackadaisical press, on-line and off-, has gotten even blurrier. Here’s my definitions on our Too Good to be Threw Consumer Page.
Good luck with your planning. Sounds like you have a bit on your plate at the moment!
Thanks I should print this and place it somewhere behind the counter for a reminder. Any suggestions for slow days? It gets a bit discouraging at times. Sometimes I feel so helpless trying to promote our client’s store that we run and manage for them.
I know just what you mean! Sometimes you just wanna step out the door with a LASSO and drag ’em in! But better: take a look at our “Slow Month” suggestions, a PDF you can download for free here.
On the subject of slow months, is summer typically slow?
