“I need something chick and swave.”

September 11, 2014 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Family joke (yes, I grew up in the consignment industry): Customer comes into my mother’s shop, seeking something “Chick and swave.” That’s it, the total joke, but it became family shorthand for someone putting on airs without knowing a lot.

Ever had a customer say this to you? Did you wince at her mispronunciation? But when it comes to those hoity-toity designers, do you, like I,

mumble your way through,

hoping that your customer doesn’t correct you?

If so, you’ll like these guides from Harper’s Bazaar. After all, they should know, right?

I promise to stop pronouncing TSE as Tee-Ess-E, now that I know it’s say.

Part One and Part Deux (that’s pronounced “Do”, isn’t it?)

Love this 🙂 I’m in the south and smocked bishop-style dresses are huge here. I had a lady telling me about a “pope” dress her daughter had bought. Once I figured out she’d confused her clergy, it was REALLY hard to stifle that laugh!
