Stealing ideas from Amazon

June 30, 2015 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

So you want more folks to follow your social media, use your app, think about your consignment, resale or thrift shop every day?

Here’s an idea you can steal (well, adapt to your business and marketplace) from Amazon. Come back after you watch it….

Back? Good. I’m thinking of all of you with bulky old entertainment centers you can’t sell for love or money… but COULD turn into your daily

Treasure CHEST.

Think of it… every morning you load the chest with a limited amount of merchandise you want to move, at a motivating price. Then publicize what’s in it, at that incredible price for TODAY ONLY!

What’s in it? A dozen designer handbags for 75% off? Shelves of coffee mugs for their office at 10 for a buck? Your most popular scented candles for only $5 each, regularly $19?

TGtbT.com says: turn that bulky unsaleable armoire into a Treasure Chest of deals (and attention!)

Great way to motivate folks to remember your shop. Cheap advertising. Something your competitor isn’t doing, and something great for word of mouth and media attention.

So tell us what you think, in the comments.

I think it’s a great idea. I have one of those monstrosities that you can’t move (literally) and takes up room that is so needed. I will start working on this immediately. I work for a Ministry called Love INC I manage our resale shops. Our shop is called “Loves Treasures” can you see how nice Our Treasure Chest fits in? I sure can. The other shop is called ” Loves Outback” I will have to work on that, but I’m already thinking about the tools that are back there that are just sitting on a table, to put them in a tool chest, is a real good idea and then to feature them on FB would bring attention to them as well as give folks something out of the ordinary to look at. Well I just like the idea, and I will use it thank you.

Glad I could help, Jean… be sure to come back and show us your “Treasure Chests” as you create them! Here’s another post that can give you some ideas too, and here’s all the blog posts that are especially useful to NFPs.

I like this! Right now, we use a card table to hold items we are marking down to get rid of, but this is certainly more interesting.

Right! And it’s the surprise element (What’s on special TODAY?) and limited-time offer (If I want it, better get it today!) that makes it work so well via social media. This is not a technique for clearance sales, but rather “hot deals” that are only this price today… e.g., those $5 candles will go back up to the normal $19 tomorrow. Let us know how it works in your business, if you decide to try it!

Love the idea! Now to find a “treasure chest” for Carousel Kids!
I know just the items that are going in there first! Thanks, Kate!
