Building a collection of your own photos is a great thing to do. Here’s one Julie snapped, when she bought a truck load of mannequins.
After all, we all have cameras in our pockets (or at least at the counter!) these days.
Imagine how
this shot could be used:
“The crowds outside our shop before opening are amazing”
“Everyone agrees, we’d look better in clothes from Repeat Street”
“Naked? We can help”….
Candid shots can be effective as well. This shot, taken during a renovation of Goddess Plus in Connecticut, just begs for some fun captions. Hey, there’s an idea: you could even have a “caption this photo” contest on Facebook!
So keep your phone or camera handy, your thinking cap on, and reap the benefits of having your own unique photos ready for use.
Our thanks to Repeat Street in Gurnee Illinois, a Sponsor of HowToConsign’s Resale Shop Directory for the photo and the inspiration for this post.
Hello! Glad I found your site. I’m a small consignment shop owner in a small town. Customers come in thinking that we are a 2nd Hand Shop. When I ask them if they know what a consignment shop is, they look at me confused. We are the only consignment shop in town & an infant one. Can you give me any ideas as how to sell our little shop. People around here are use to the thrift stores.

Hi DeAna, welcome to the TGtbT.com family of sites for the professional resaler and to the business.
First of all, you ARE a 2nd hand shop. You sell used stuff, right? Absolutely NOTHING to be ashamed of.
Trying to explain that you are a consignment shop… if you’re talking to potential shoppers, not potential consignors, is kinda not-the-point. They don’t care HOW your business is set up… they care what you have to sell.
What you probably want to impress on these folks is that you are a “curated shop”, that you are “partners with our consignors” and so on. That you only showcase the best, most stylish, fresh items, and that unlike what they’re thinking of as “thrift shops”, they don’t have to dig through outdated and unkempt goods.
Have a browse through our blog here, our Facebook and Pinterest, and of course our flagship site, TGtbT.com, for more tips on how to differentiate your shop from what might be a less-elegant competitor.
And don’t miss our sister site, HowToConsign.com, which has the consumer-angle that you can link to in your social media, so you can gently educate your FB followers. The links to all our social media are on both our sites.
