Jewelry Up Close & Personal

March 13, 2017 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

One of the most profitable things you can sell in your shop is jewelry. Why? Well, if you follow the advice in the Manual, the mark-up can be terrific; jewelry takes up little space so your dollars per square foot can reach into the thousands; and because, well because jewelry fits most everyone!

The secret to selling more jewelry? Show it on your social media. Which means taking pictures. Which means

taking really GOOD pictures.

Some tips for getting great shots?

Keep it clean.

Plain background, simple chain.

You can even get away with simple T-pins, if your shot’s crisp and clean.

Good lighting makes even T pins look good!

Use a simple but evocative backdrop.

Here, a few bits of wide ribbon tell the whole story, don’t they?

Cameo and ribbon = romantic!

Or take it outside.

Don't be up a tree thinking about taking pix of your consignment jewelry.

Can’t beat this with a stick, can we?

Use a backdrop which reflects your shop’s branding.

The edge of a baroque picture frame, a glitter hanger… you know immediately the ambiance of this shop, right?

This actually links to a craft idea, so you could make a display piece for store use, suggest shoppers buy those old records so they can make a holder for their own collection, or even make some to sell in your shop! Meanwhile, though… this is an eye-catching social media shot promoting your “Top Forty” earring hits!

Make your photos shareable, pin-able, even good enough to use on your site!:
