April’s a Bouquet of Promo Possibilities!

March 31, 2017 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Resale promo ideas to keep you from being an April Fool!Well, tomorrow’s April Fools Day, and you’d be a fool not to have a few promotions scheduled for the upcoming month. Some ideas:

The first week is National Library Week. Promote the sale or donation of books. Or be a donation station for books to go to your local “Friends of the Library” book sale, if your business doesn’t sell books. Have a free drawing for the most comfy reading chair, or floor lamp, in your shop. (Remember, gather contact info to send a “thank you for participating” email, and ask them if they’d like to continue receiving news via your broadcast email marketing.)

The whole month is Keep America Beautiful Month and I needn’t tell you to use this as the theme for your display windows, Facebook posts, and so on: the best way to keep American beautiful is to use those things you sell, right? “Keeping America Beautiful with this date-night outfit, family-room couch, garden sculpture…”

April 5 is National Dandelion Day. Fill your displays with bright-yellow goods. Have a sip-&-shop event with dandelion wine. Wear funny fuzzy yellow hats.

The third Saturday (this year, April 15) is Husband Appreciation Day. Gussy up and have a Grand Opening of your Husband Waiting Area. Post it on your social media. Give away subscriptions to Sports Illustrated. Offer free “greeting cards” with every purchase: Dear Hubby, I appreciated you today by shopping at MyShop where my purchases saved us $___

And of course April 20 is Volunteer Recognition Day. If you operate with volunteers, invite all to come in for a Splurge Shopping Day with a generous discount (and a flower for each who comes, maybe even lunch.) If you don’t use volunteers, give a discount to each and every shopper who comes in wearing her/his volunteer badge… and take photos/ keep a list of the groups they volunteer with, for use over the next week or two on your social media.  Here’s Joanie and Pat, who volunteer for Meals on Wheels. We at MyShop were delighted to honor their community involvement last week on Volunteer Appreciation Day! (And next year, vow to get your promotion into various charities’ newsletters by scheduling press releases to go out to them by Jan 15 or so!)
