Do they get your Facebook Group notifications?

November 17, 2017 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Bummer, right? No matter how cute and interesting and vital your page is, very few of those who follow you will ever be offered the choice to read it. Is there a solution? YES. (Well, MAYBE. Read on…)
One of the reasons consignment, thrift, and resale shops maintain a group on Facebook, in addition to their business page, is because members of the group receive notifications.

Or do they? Maybe NOT.

Are the members of your Facebook group truly getting the notifications you’d like them too? Did you ever notice that Notifications button in the header banner?

Make sure your consignment or resale "groupies" know about this, says Kate Holmes of Too Good to be Threw

And you know the weird thing about this button? It seems to choose a setting all on its own. That means that some of your group members may never hear from you. The screen-grab above was taken from a group that I belong to… and that I really wanted to hear from!

You need to tell your members about this!

Pin a post to the top of your group, and also, every so often, repost the message in the timeline to remind them.

Suggested wording. This has been taken from a group whose URL I neglected to make a note of. Apologies for not offering a hat-tip to the author… and if you are the author, feel free to link to your page in the comments, below. (Also note that this message alerts users to the option to turn off notifications for specific threads, which they may find helpful.)

Our group is very active. If you find you are getting too many notifications to your in box, remember that YOU control your settings And you can tweak it to your liking.
In the group banner along the top of the page, you will see some choices. One of them is “notifications”. Here you may choose to see all, highlights, friends posts or off. REMEMBER OFF TURNS OFF EVERYTHING FROM THE GROUP. You may change your settings as frequently as you like. You can also turn off notifications in a SINGLE SPECIFIC post by clicking in the upper right corner of the post – across from the person’s name, and choose “turn off notifications” which only turns it off for that one single thread. (I recommend doing that instead of turning off all notifications)

We’ll be talking more, and collecting some great info, about pages, groups, and whether “public” or “closed” or “secret” should be your choice, soon on TGtbT.blog. Stay tuned!
