How many of your customers have mothers? Are mothers? Have people on their lives who are like mothers to them?
Changes are, 100%.
But heck, even if your stats are, say, only 86% have/are/love mothers….
that’s a whole lotta folks needing Mother’s Day Gifts Inspirations.
2018: Mother’s Day spending to reach $23.1 billion. According to NRF’s annual survey, 86 percent of Americans will celebrate Mother’s Day this year and spend an average of $180 per person. — National Retail Federation
So let’s look at an imaginary customer of yours. Let’s call her Jennifer, she’s 45, married, a new grandmother with a mother named Linda and a mother-in-law Barbara, and heck, let’s throw in a stepmother Patti.
Wow. Now even though Jennifer’s imaginary husband is spending his $180 on brunches and flowers for the older generation, Jen’s gotta stretch her $180 for a daughter plus 3 mothers.
How can you help Jennifer spend her $180?
Here’s how:
- Create a swing shop front & center and fill it with gift suggestions. Now mothers are a varied lot, so use your imagination as you wander through your shop. Then write, on a nice big tag maybe? why this item would be perfect for someone’s mom…
- This shell-encrusted box will hold your memories of that sweet grandbaby’s childhood…
- She’s always been wild to travel? What better gift than this passport wallet?
- Tuck a gift certificate to Arthur Murray in the toe of these sparkly dancing shoes!
- A hand-woven shawl from afar, to warm her heart ans her shoulders…
- Do the same with a special Facebook album of Mother’s Day gift selections. Snap pix, add the caption, and don’t forget the “To have us gift-wrap this for your loved one, contact us to buy it (add your contact info right here!)... it’ll be ready to pick up this evening after work…“
- Social media the HECK out of that album, on all channels, several times a day. Put a note about the album on your website’s front page, on your blog, in your windows and dressing rooms and receipts. Keep adding to, and removing, your gift suggestions all week. Mentioning that you’re adding more ideas to the album warrants another round of social media mentions, right?
And if someone buys one of these gift suggestions for herself, claiming that her cat will give it to her?
Snap a photo and post THAT
on your social media. We all know the best gifts might be those we buy ourselves, so let others know they’re not alone.
Let’s see. Twenty loyal customers and five new Facebook customers times $180… A boost in your week’s income of $4500? Hey, maybe you need to save that passport case for yourself…. from the cat, of course.
