Send them on a Treasure Hunt!

October 15, 2018 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

A Treasure Hunt promotion, AKA the bus-less resale bus tour, encourages

customers of one or more shops, to visit the other shops in your local area.

The idea is to motivate with a “treasure” the exploration of all shops. You can have a simple brochure listing the shops, but it’s lots more fun to have a whimsical map. It doesn’t need to be to scale, but it should be somewhat followable, and of course, it will provide a spot for each shop to stamp, punch, or otherwise validate the “explorer’s” visit.

A wise participating store (yours comes to mind ♥) ) will have an extra “surprise” small gift for each and every person who comes in with her/his map, in addition to the “treasure” they can qualify for during the promotion. Could be as simple as a bottle of cold water, as profit-focused as a generous $-off coupon good during a near-future time period, or as business-building as “join our email list and get….”

Our example here, is from one chain of stores, and from a few years back, but I love how it plays on the Monopoly meme. Of course, each square could be a business member of your group. This promotion required a purchase; yours doen’t need to require more than a visit, and a validation from the shop.

Note: If you are doing this with independent shops, collect the cash to reimburse whichever shop(s) redeem the winning gift certificate(s) at the organizational meeting.
