Last post here on TGTbT.com‘s Auntie Kate blog we talked about the do’s of arranging and managing the sales floor plan of your resale, consignment, or thrift shop. Today, some things you do not want to see. (And some things you might want to change up for maximum sales.)
Shop layout don’t’s
DON’T let too-high racks “tower” over customers. Not only will they feel constricted, but too-tall racks are like catnip to shoplifters.
DON’1 arrange long aisles without exits that force customers to commit. Use cross aisles often in case they want to exit, or in case of a “traffic jam”.
DON’T overpower customers with too many racks. Better fewer racks and more room to shop.
DON’T waste that right front area on your sales desk. It feels unfriendly and interrupts the natural flow of browsers.
DON’T turn off your customers with unfriendly and/or amateur signage. Both wording and production must be professional.
DON’T use bulky racks which take up floor space where youd rather place a buying shopper or two!
DON’T build-in racks which eliminate flexibility. Use adjustable standards or wall systems. You WILL regret fixed wall racks.
DON’T dead-end racks into a wall by placing them perpendicular to walls. What is she supposed to do, back out?
DON’T hang items too high or low for comfortable browsing. Again, better fewer things more readily seen. touched, bought.
DON’T cause shoppers to cut their visits short because their companion has no place to sit and wait. Doesn’t have to be fancy, just needs to be obvious to a bored friend or relative. Even a single chair is better than nothing.
DON’T neglect your suppliers, your consignors, resellers, or donors by handling them in a messy, dim, crowded area. They are your partners in success!
