As shoppers, we can all subliminally tell the basic price point of a shop by its location, its personnel, its atmosphere and its decor. We can even judge “how expensive this shop is likely to be” by its window displays. A Walmart looks, smells, sounds different than a Gap than a Saks Fifth Avenue. Each is carefully crafted to appeal to its target customers’ ready-to-buy budget and value-vs.-price mental equation.
