Is being stingy costing your resale shop money?

June 10, 2019 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

We all understand that we can’t be stingy paying our staff (after all, as consignment and resale shops, we require our staff not just to sell, but to manage and monitor incoming merchandise too). We know that skimping on rent is a false economy (if they can’t see us they can’t shop us). And saving a few bucks by using copyrighted pictures without paying for them? That watermark from the owner shows potential shoppers that your company might have some ethical challenges that they would do well to steer clear of.

All of these are times when being cheap is harmful to your business in the long term.

So is being parsimonious with our love (well, at least our “likes”)!

Attaboys are free. Send Them Out into the Universe

Not liking social media posts of customers, business neighbors, causes we support is the worst kind of economy. It’s withholding something absolutely FREE that we can do to build up community, and even world-wide, recognition of our businesses.

And commenting? Well, that gives you a chance to polish your shop’s reputation with a few well-chosen words.

And sharing? That’s the biggest compliment you can offer your acquaintances, and they, in turn, will (if they are as business-savvy as us resalers) return the favor by liking, commenting, and sharing your messages.

So “like” your social media peers’ comments, use that little laugh icon, when they made you LOL, hit the heart when they have touched your heart. Comment on the hardware store’s post about their selection of hammers by adding “we always count on Henry’s Hardware to show us where to hit the nail on the head”. Share the café-next-door’s luncheon special with your followers by adding to your share, “If it weren’t for Callie’s place, we might be able  to squeeze into last year’s jeans”….

They’ll appreciate it.

Spread the love… it all comes back to you. Don’t be stingy.
