I’m a great fan of changing one’s consignment shop around quickly and inexpensively. I am also GA-GA on word of mouth. So I suggest that every shop with dressing rooms that have curtains, have a wardrobe of seasonal changes.

I’m not sure what “season” this wonderful tattoo fabric covers, but I think it would be terrific for a vintage, reconstructed, teen-oriented shop… and what word of mouth!

Not your shop’s style? I found a wonderful “kids-pirates-treasure-hunt” fabric (if your shop is childrenswear or has the word “Treasure” in its name), and a slew of other ideas. One thing I love to see (more…)

I just know I’ve mentioned these to my consignment and resale shopkeepers at Sharing some time… but they are so worth mentioning again.

These star lanterns are SO cool, and SO inexpensive, and SO easy to resell, that you can have fab decor and a new profit center all in one.

My favorite theme for anniversary celebrations for retail shops is “You’re the STAR”… my favorite holiday decor is STARS… heck, my favorite SHAPE is a star. So forgive me if I am a little over the top with enthusiasm for these stars from Whirled Planet

This is, according to the folks selling it, a tulle stand. Not that I knew tulle needed a stand, but whatShabby chic, and cheap as well! do I know?

All I know is that this would make a great display piece for a garment on a hanger, in a shop that’s shabby-chic-ish. And at less than $40 for half a dozen, sounds like a not-so-shabby price. And a LOT more interesting than a standard old boring hook stand.

The party/craft supply website, Save-on-Crafts, selling this has lots of exciting things to use in your shop. Monstera leaves anyone?

Photo borrowed from artsupply.comThese manikins, or artist’s models, make terrific props in a jewelry showcase. Artsupply.com seems to have the most reasonable prices, but check locally to avoid shipping (both the monetary and the ecological costs!) and to support your local merchants, of course. (As my mother said, Pretty is as pretty does: If you want support from your marketplace, you have to offer it.)

Anyway, these manikins or ladykins are posable, and would look terrificThis manikin is from jerrysartarama holding a string of beads, offering up on a “platter” those diamond earrings, holding a small sign and more. If you leave them plain as-is, they’re moderne/ architectural-looking. Splash some rich colors of paints on them and they look straight from an artist’s Parisian atelier for you eclectic shops. Heck, you can even dress them in bits and pieces of old crochet work or chiffon scarves and feathers for whimsey (wouldn’t this “flying” manikin make a TERRIFIC “Budget Angel” mascot? S/he is from Jerry’s Artarama.)

blog32308.pngAs you all know, my favorite price is free. And my favorite activity is planning consignment, resale, and thrift stores.

And my LEAST-FAVORITE thing is yanking and tugging clothing racks, especially full clothing racks, around a store.

You probably agree. In fact, you’d probably rearrange your shop, if it weren’t such a pain to do (do you hear me, local shop with New Year’s Eve dresses front and center at Eastertime?). Wouldn’t it be great to rearrange your shop sitting down?

Voila! A new Favorite Thing: Arrange-a-Room, courtesy of BH&G.

So how could (more…)
