Interesting idea in an article I read recently, and one that could be a terrific way to promote a Green Christmas in your consignment or resale shop. The article starts “Why spend hundreds of dollars on new clothing when fun and fashionable threads are available for a fraction of the cost? Combat consumerism and imagine a more Earth-friendly wardrobe at this second-hand fashion show.”

Kate and Kenny all decked outAs the only person in my shop without kids, parents, and others, I always worked Christmas Eve day from opening until our early closing at 4. While my staff enjoyed their family activities, I had to balance my career obligations with my social and in-law activities.

One Christmas Eve (I was much more foolish then) I decided I could manage an open house on Christmas Eve with over 45 people invited for 7 PM on. And Christmas Day dinner for the in-laws too. Well, with 3 hours between closing (and that was fun, too, since we always had champagne on Christmas Eve in the shop. I didn’t even TRY to balance the cash drawer…) and this party, no problemo. The Too Good to be Threw Mobile

May your days be polka-dot…

and may all your Christmases be dotty….

and yes, the polka dots are real. And yes, people laugh when I drive down the street. Isn’t it grand? That I can bring such happiness to them?

I’m thinking of getting a clown nose to wear while driving. And getting a whole slew of little people for friends who can pile out at stoplights and run around real fast before they pile back in. Might as well go all the way. Beep beep.

Look what I found!

My SecondHand SantaMy light-up Santa is the new light of my life. You can’t see it in my excellent photo, but St. Nick is gently faded around the edges, as befits a gently-used treasure.

I found the chubby Chief Elf at my local consignment shop, Woman’s Exchange in Sarasota.

Santa’s wielding an upside-down candy cane, all the better to beat back the years. I’d say he’s, oh, 55 or 60, a nice age for Santa Claus, don’t you think? And while he is the requisite jolly, I do believe he’s a tad more dignified than (more…)
