In John Jantsch’s latest e-newsletter, a nice step-by-step way to wade into the whole Facebook, Digg, MySpace, StumbleUpon, Twitter, Mixx, Squidoo, delicious, and Flickr world of ways to promote your consignment or resale shop, and create a reason for people to remember, and spread the word about, you. In effect, it’s word of mouse!

That Challenge to all Consignment and Resale Shops? It was a good idea in July. It’s an even better one in November.

For those of you who are taking advantage of the recent intense media interest in our resale / consignment / thrift store industry, how many (more…)

Sunday was relax, brunch, one-on-one time for most of us, and para-sailing time for the more adventurous.

There was lots to mull over, since not a single person had been shy in asking for feedback nor held back on her suggestions for improvement. Ads, mailers, photos and floor plans were pored over. Situations were laughed at and commiserated with. Small fun gifts were exchanged, recipes promised, and sunscreen shared.

Sunday evening’s drum circle, a 5-minute stroll down the beach from where the Flamingoettes were flocking, looks like this …only you have to imagine Carolyn hoop-dancing* in her tied and wrapped sarong-y thing…

After sunset, a walk through Siesta Village and the obligatory Tshirt shop, the almost-obligatory Margherita on the rocks, a fish taco or two, and back to the cottages to repack and say our goodbyes for the early-Monday flights home.

Leaving Kate all alone in Paradise again, and looking forward to another Flamingoville, wherever the flock lands next time. And here’s hoping some additional Sharers spread their wings to join us when they can!

* Hoop-dancing is what they call, nowadays, Hula hooping, but that’s too old-school for the 21st century. 😉

Resale Roundtable Poolside

On Saturday, Flamingoville’s residents, consignment and resale shopkeepers all, knuckled down to learning and Sharing, and soaking in the Sarasota sun poolside. Good news! Cathy’s back with us and she only missed PART of the fun and learning. Seven topics and 5 hours later, interrupted only by our cottage-potluck lunch, we were ready to relax over dinner at Kate’s (AKA my place). Well, everyone relaxed except for Kate with volunteers Tanya and Tracy, who came early to help chop and cook and set tables. (Thanks, you two, could NOT have done it without you, nor had as much fun!)

After dinner entertainment was courtesy of a generous and imaginative donation from Cynthia of The White Elephant in Virginia. When Cynthia donated the Display Diva Bucket, absolutely FILLED with display tools and props, I asked her to come up with a way to award the prize, and oh my did she! Tanya “ran” the event: Decorate a window for a specific shop (Cynthia’s imagination ran wild here: everyone had a different type of shop to decorate for, from a dance studio to a barbeque specialty shop!)

After much trading and cutting and sticking, the entries were voted on and Smokey Joe’s, by Marriette won…but only after a tie with Julie’s Tiny Dancer display! The tie was broken by their creating a theme song for their imaginary shop. Here she displays, for your enjoyment, the squeegee from the Display Diva Bucket she won. Everyone agreed this would be a perfect activity for a staff gathering in their shops, so this may be the birthplace of a new employee-bounding tradition as well as a fun evening for resale shopkeepers themselves. Thanks Cynthia!
