Customers who try on clothes in fitting rooms have a conversion rate—meaning they ultimately buy something they tried on—of 67%… Customers who don’t use the fitting rooms [Ed. note: Because yours lack a little something?] have only a 10% conversion rate. Shoppers who use the fitting rooms spend a third of their in-store time there. —Department Store Retailing

(I love the “dungeon” remark. Once, I counseled a NFP thrift to move its dressing rooms to a center structure that had to remain smack in the middle of the shop, for exactly that reason. Who wants to try on back down that dim hallway, next to the janitor’s closet and barred delivery door?)
