Clever Consignment Coupon

March 21, 2014 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Clever coupon idea from a consignment shopNow here’s not only a clever coupon for your resale shop… it’s the ideal way to

get your e-mail list folks actually opening and reading your broadcast email.

The end of this newsletter, full of great photos of incoming merchandise, jewelry selection, and special handbags, was a coupon saying:

15 % Off Any Item Pictured in this Newsletter
(Items subject to prior sale/ Offer expires [date])

.
Our thanks to Classic Collections in Palm Beach FL for this terrific idea. You remember her shop from the NARTS Bus Tour a few years back… the one with the $35,000 handbag (resale price!)

Hi Kate – I love this idea… however, I may be blind.. I don’t see what their subject line was?? The coupon is great.. but what got them to open it.

The suggestions you made in comments were helpful too.

    Thanks so much
    Countdown to October

Hi Tanya! (What’s happening in October? 🙂 ) The reason you don’t see what their subject line was, is because it’s not a part of this tip. The tip is solely to include a coupon with any broadcast email a shop sends out with some merchandise photos… and if a shop consistently sends out a coupon FOR THE PICTURED ITEMS… everyone’s gonna wanna see what goodies are featured and how much they might be able to save. Sorry for the confusion… I guess everyone’s confused, because I haven’t seen anyone else ever use this idea. 😦

Ok.. makes sense. One tip at a time. I am planning to use this idea!
I have taken a few days off.. so I need to go in and take pictures.

        Anniversary.. 9 years young!
        🙂 Cheers!

    Hi Kate-

This newsletter tip sounds like a great idea and I’d love to see how she did it! Was there a link in your post to the actual newsletter you tell about? (That shop was awesome—I remember that purse!!).

I’m sitting on the beach right now, enjoying the wonderful Dominican Republic weather!! I often think of you when I’m in a warm tropical place!! We’re here for 4 weeks and loving it! I read your posts each day—even on vacation!

    Thanks a bunch!

Sorry, Kerri, I would have to direct you to her web site for that info. The only “way she did it” is simply have a coupon at the bottom of her newsletter with that wording…. have a lovely vacation, and it’s nice to know that I’m there, even if just electronically!

How do I open this dang thing to see the newsletter?

    • on March 21, 2014 at 12:53 pm Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw's avatar Auntie Kate

HI Marilyn! Our e-newsletter, the most recent version and the place to join our mailing list so you get it in your email, is here: https://www.facebook.com/2Good2BThrew/posts/10203437839013825 Glad you’re interested!

Marilyn, sorry for the confusion. You can’t open Classic Collection’s newsletter (unless, of course, you received it in your email as I did.) Perhaps if you contacted that shop, they could give you a link to their newsletter archive.

It’s really not necessary to see their newsletter of course… the idea of having a nice selection of current goods, and then at the end to have a coupon good on any of those goods, is pretty simple. Your customers will love “treasure-hunting”, so if this is an idea you want to try, I’d suggest a goodly amount of items pictured, and a wide range of color/ style/ size/ price.

What do you charge to take a look at a business?? I think our issue is we have gone stale as far as getting the word out. At least that’s one thought Thanks

Thanks for asking… I really DO need to move “put your consulting service on the darn web site” to the top of my to-do list, don’t I? 😉 Here’s the 411:
There are three ways for me to consult with you:

      On Site:
On-site examination, meetings with pertinent staff, face-to-face discussion and a summary checklist can be very useful in helping examine operating procedures, merchandising, and market effectiveness.

There is a 3-day minimum (including travel time), and the cost is $2000 per day plus travel expenses from/to Sarasota FL.
Because of travel considerations, a 3-day visit usually ends up being a partial day on Days 1 and 3, and a full day on Day 2.

      Visiting Sarasota:
A day’s consultation is $500. Included in this are up to 6 hours of instruction, including, if you wish, as many local store visits as seem useful/practical. You may bring as many people to participate as you like.

      By Phone:
Phone consultations are $100 an hour, minimum 2 hours, may be used in segments of 30 minutes over the course of 6 months.

It’s best, no matter which way you choose, to formulate your concerns and to gather any “evidence” beforehand. You are welcome to email those to me ahead of the scheduled phone consultation to allow me time to study/investigate/prepare unique ideas for you on my own time. That way, we can maximize our time together.

I will be happy to further discuss any of these choices with you, and look forward to it!
