Aw, that’s so cute! Displaying home goods….

June 29, 2014 by Auntie Kate of Too Good to be Threw

Of all the challenges consignment, resale and thrift shopkeepers face with merchandising their one-of-a-kind assortment of goods,

the absolute hardest thing to display is sets of china.

So I was delighted to discover a great photo of this idea, nestling small sets of china into a large basket:

A small set of china looks SO much more saleable tucked in a basket, thinks TGtbT.com

What you’ll need:

  1. Big, sturdy baskets, preferably painted in pastels which will be most useful in matching up to china patterns
  2. Some “spare” linens: odd napkins, dresser scarves that aren’t saleable as is, even remnant ends of linen and cotton as accent to the display.
  3. Possibly, some packing paper to prop the china up to the level of the basket lip

Tucking a basket of china under an end table or next to an easy chair, rather than simply plopping it on a gondola shelf, allows you to have more selection, if your shop is as cramped as I think it probably is!

You’ll also need to decide: will you sell the basket? If so, be sure to price it at replacement cost… those sturdy baskets can sometimes be hard to find!
